Hubpage’s say’s Google why Youtube got boost & Hubpage’s demoted by Panda?

Google’s panda is giving rocking performance to  devalue some  quality website’s as we are seeing  for last one month. After Global panda up-gradation of Google ,makes the scenario worse for some websites and this  time HubPages CEO Paul Edmondson Google webmaster central thread wrote how Youtube got boost by the update they got impacted by Global Panda. Here is the details he wrote:

“What are the best practices for open publishing platforms due to the recent Panda update? In particular, where high quality content on a domain has been negatively impacted on average as much as any other content?  Is it a question of content moderation, site architecture, both or something else?

While we believe the democratization of publishing and earning potential is an important part of the progress of the Web, we want to avoid a situation where a portion of content negatively impacts the rankings of high quality content.  It appears HubPages has been impacted by this while YouTube has not, despite HubPages having a more strict content policy.  In Google’s view, what is the recommended moderation standard that open publishing platforms should enforce?

Open publishing platforms tend to use one of two domain models. WordPress, Tumblr, Blogger organize mainly by subdomain, while HubPages and YouTube organize all the content under a single domain.  Is there a recommendation on the best practice for open platforms regarding architecture?

In an effort to give Google clues, HubPages’ internal linking structure promotes the best content.  For example, we program the “related articles” suggestions with content that we think users will find useful, and we submit sitemaps with a set priority so Google knows the most important content.  We also understand the challenges of fighting off spam, spun articles and various forms of attacks; we believe we do the industry’s best job of fighting spam in an open publishing environment where every individual can have a voice.

Feedback from Google on open publishing platforms best practices is greatly appreciated. “

And Google Panda feedback thread showing http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Webmasters/thread?tid=76830633df82fd8e&hl=en&fid=76830633df82fd8e0004a13706582913 – showing 1849  post reply and its growing day by day, certainly which indicates,Google need to fix the Panda algo to some extend…

Few major sites like Digital Trends, lost the serp and they are demoted by there own content on organic search by there own content syndication partner which proves Google’s panda algo is not identifying the original content creator:

where all the content syndication partner(where they are maintaining Google’s guidelines for content syndication partner’s) are showing but its hard to find the Digital Trends original link on Page 1.Day by day we will find more more quality website which might be effected by the Panda upgrade.

SEO reporting format depends on Client status?

Last week I was reading an interesting article on seomoz, that gave some lights on my thought, how SEO reports varies from client to client prospect. If you are an early bird on SEO industry then you might have an experience how you have to maintain the reports from client to client. But if  we are going to maintain the same traditional SEO reporting format’s,then I must say that should be modified.

When a consultant/agency sign up a SEO client,if they are well revised with  reports based on the client status, then definitely it will be a bad impression.Because according to human psychology, every one having different opinion to see their website’s improvement or scoring factor’s.So basically we have to deal with classification of reports which suits the mold.Basically we  use three types SEO report format’s based on the client status,

  • Reports for non-tech savvy person/individual
  • Reports for a IT manager of company
  • Reports to the top most person of a company CEO,COO, Director or President.

So for non tech savvy client, we basically use simple reporting format which mainly focused overall rank improvements, traffic, the on page main changes, back links reports and a weekly phone call or chatting, to ask him if any problem to understanding the reports.

For IT Manager, most reporting should be illustrative, elaborated and with proper technical analysis.Basically it contains every single on page changes we made during the week with explanation why we did that,if we need to change any landing page color, text or any navigation or 301 issues-make a keynote for that, details analytic report(mainly Google) for a week, including bounce rate, traffic, source of traffic, geographical traffic analysis, which back links has been generated along with OSE reports which contains the PR,traffic estimates, trust authority, mozTrust of linking pages, variation of links and link correlation/dilute ratio. So that way he get the in details report of one week progress and one phone call meeting along with rank sheet.

For higher official’s like CEO,COO ,Director or President of company, generally they are extremely busy with their schedule, some time we didnt catch up that level/C-Level client with a month,so according to their status, they use to very short or jist of the report’s or updates at the end of the week.Where we only generate an automated rank sheet for the major search engines and estimated traffic improvements and the conversion rate and short phone message, highlight the key points for that specific week.

So that way if you maintain your SEO reports, then it will help you to make happy your clients by reporting format’s besides making links and getting top SERP,as I do believe so from my personal experience.

Google’s Global Panda update hit Ehow this time!

After First Panda update we know we got a huge no. of losers and winners list from SISTRIX and Searchmetrics and again we got results of loser’s and winner of Global panda roll out which mainly rolled on UK(assumed), that shows this time Demand Media Ehow got stuck.

According to the First Panda update on Google USA,Ehow gained a huge according to Searchmetrics it was 13.6% gain:

According to Soclarity.net data sheet they gained 19.7%, which make early debate on every webmaster’s forum, where we saw lots of webmaster’s were complaining Ehow is doing much much better than their original contents, few we saw on Google’s webmaster’s thread:http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Webmasters/thread?tid=76830633df82fd8e&hl=en&start=160 so, its matter of fact Google got criticized over and over for Ehow performance butt after Google global panda update,Ehow got affected this time:From Searchmetrics data sheet they lost almost 50% visibility:

and according to SISTRIX data sheet where change is almost 84%

First 10 Loser’s are

# Domain Change SISTRIX (before) SISTRIX (after) # KWs (before) # KWs (after)
1 ehow.co.uk -84% 218,37 35,43 381.271 139.687
2 ezinearticles.com -78% 118,45 25,65 267.785 116.644
3 twenga.co.uk -79% 98,96 20,96 153.106 72.996
4 shopzilla.co.uk -77% 99,92 23,40 156.630 89.611
5 hubpages.com -72% 96,35 26,99 206.290 95.460
6 ciao.co.uk -81% 81,01 15,43 125.173 61.286
7 suite101.com -79% 70,98 14,85 175.632 70.548
8 associatedcontent.com -82% 51,16 9,41 186.020 85.507
9 dooyoo.co.uk -80% 50,64 10,38 94.310 40.864
10 comparestoreprices.co.uk -78% 37,68 8,19 66.862 39.633

So its matter of  fact that this time Ehow got effected and its content are going down on Google search visibility.Another big impact over Ciao.co.uk  got hit this time, which came from Microsoft, and one of  major Europe market player .I think Panda is not completed yet, and it will effect more and more time until its get settled, till we need to wait and watch the Google’s Panda movement…

The interesting fact is this Ehow.co.uk and Ehow.com has lost more than 50% according to Searchmetrics and I think which is positive result for Google’s Panda.

And finally Google team responded to the webmasters and where they confirmed that penalties aren’t counting manually its  of algorithimic, no manual penalties. and Google employee pierre far confirmed that on WebmasterWorld thread and here is the Google WMT replies:

Dear site owner or webmaster of <site>,

We received a request from a site owner to reconsider <site> for compliance with Google’s Webmaster Guidelines.

We reviewed your site and found no manual actions by the webspam team that might affect your site’s ranking in Google. There’s no need to file a reconsideration request for your site, because any ranking issues you may be experiencing are not related to a manual action taken by the webspam team.

Of course, there may be other issues with your site that affect your site’s ranking. Google’s computers determine the order of our search results using a series of formulas known as algorithms. We make hundreds of changes to our search algorithms each year, and we employ more than 200 different signals when ranking pages. As our algorithms change and as the web (including your site) changes, some fluctuation in ranking can happen as we make updates to present the best results to our users.

If you’ve experienced a change in ranking which you suspect may be more than a simple algorithm change, there are other things you may want to investigate as possible causes, such as a major change to your site’s content, content management system, or server architecture. For example, a site may not rank well if your server stops serving pages to Googlebot, or if you’ve changed the URLs for a large portion of your site’s pages. This article has a list of other potential reasons your site may not be doing well in search.

If you’re still unable to resolve your issue, please see our Webmaster Help Forum for support.

Sincerely,

Google Search Quality Team

There you have it. A lot of price comparison sites are now really suffering, notably Ciao.co.uk (who’s currently in a lawsuit with Google…)

And now for the top 20 winners. Nothing drastic here, but some confirmation that sites where users spend a lot of time looking at pages have gained more visibility following the update.

Google confirmed Global Panda Update!

After Google’s panda update on 24th February,2011, they have launched Global Panda update today onwards for English search queries. For that search query will impact 2% on overall USA search queries, say’s Google’.s Amit Singhal.By last  Panda update rolled on  Google.com from last February and which impacted 12%(unofficially it affects much more,I assume).

Google is trying to demonstrate that Google Global Panda update will give users more quality search results but its matter of fact that Google to some extent lost some valuable search results by addition of some poor ranking signals and few bad,non informative, thin sites got a boost and expected soon Google’s panda update will settle down deserving valuable website will get back their position, which is affecting continuously false positively since the Panda is running. Its reported that Google  incorporating user feed back  scores for ranking signals and which can derived by the user on Google chrome extension or directly from search results. This brings another spot point, another feed back manipulation spam will coming to the next time, and this signal can drive crazy for serp.

Another Big news coming that Bing is covering 30% powered share search,March,2011, according to Hitwise:Hiwise reported

Bing.com share of searches increases 6 percent;

Google monthly share of searches at 64 percent

If Bing takes on that way then Google will loose more search market, due to poor results and using few poor quality results on serp besides some good results and the results is proven through the search market:Another great prediction has been published on Mashable that if Bing improves that way then on 2012, Bing could dominate Google:

By that way searcher will get more option to find out their queries and it will be great if Bing speed up their serp, crawling rate etc.
